Change Fort Hood's name to Fort Benavidez
The Issue
It is time to drop the Confederate names from U.S. military installations. Fort Hood in Killeen Texas is one such installation. The name should be change from a Confederate General to one of the greatest soldiers to ever serve in the U.S, Army. Master Sergeant Raul Perez "Roy" Benavidez was a Medal of Honor winner during the Vietnam War. The fact that Benavidez volunteered to put himself in harms way, and continue to do his duty, above and beyond, despite 37 wounds to save his men is as so unbelievable, as President Reagan said, "If the story of his heroism were a movie script, you would not believe it". The United States lacks a major military installation named after a Vietnam veteran. Texas should have the first.
