Save the Spondon Flyer Service - Reinstate it now !

After years of reductions to the Spondon Flyer Service, once one of the best in the country the service has seen cut after cut !

From a two route service less than every 10 minutes it was reduced pre pandemic to a one route service every 15 minutes, next the service saw reduction to Morning Evening Services and Sunday Services as well as only every 20 minutes with a change in route! These changes were made siting lack of use making the service less viable.

The pandemic hit and we understood the pressures on public transport have been tough, but to suspend the service completely using the driver shortage as the final excuse is just not acceptable ! 

This service is a life line for thousands of residents but especially those elderly users who are now completely cut off from public transport as the Ilkeston Flyer is not accessible causing unfair disadvantage to both Disabled and Elderly residents in the village.

We feel this lack of service is having a multitude of effects on the health of all residents from the mental health impacts of social isolation to the carbon impact of increased traffic due to lack of public transport, we need to act now 

Despite representation from the local councillors to reinstate the service no attempts have been made to reinstate the service 

As we learn to live with Covid we are calling on Trent Barton to reinstate the service NOW
