We need traffic lights in Cookstown at the Cookstown Plaza, Home Hardware and Tim Hortons.
Why this petition matters

Once again, members of our community have expressed concern about exiting the businesses on Hwy 89 at the west end of Cookstown, particularly the Cookstown Plaza, Home Hardware and Tim Hortons. At certain times of day, the wait to leave these places of business can be incredibly long - well over 10 minutes - because of excessive traffic.
These places of business have been in existence for over 30 years, with the exception of Tim Hortons which was constructed approximately 15 years ago. In the past several years, our community has grown substantially with the addition of another 100 plus homes. There is another subdivision of 150 homes that has been proposed for the northwestern portion of town along with an additional 18 plus homes going in the southwestern part of town in the very near future.
As members of the community, we don't feel the added pressure of more local shoppers is sustainable with all of the traffic that goes through our town without a controlled intersection at these places of business. We recognize that the Town of Innisfil is not in the business of building intersections for access to businesses however, the growth has been allowed by the Town and the impact of that growth is part of what is causing the problem, not to mention the 17,000 plus cars that travel through our community every single day!
We respectfully ask for a new traffic study to be done to determine whether a set of signals is warranted. I have personally had an accident at this location because a frustrated driver made a last minute decision. I would hate for anyone else to have a similar situation.
When signing this petition, please indicate any concerns you have had personally. I also recommend emailing directly to the Ward 7 councillor, Rob Nicol at rnicol@innisfil.ca; Mayor Lynn Dollin at ldollin@innisfil.ca; the Town of Innisfil at inquiry@innisfil.ca; and South Simcoe Police at inquiries@southsimcoepolice.ca. They have all been very responsive and willing to listen to concerns.
