Rename Jarvis Collegiate Institute

Rename Jarvis Collegiate Institute
The Issue
Founded in 1807 in Jarvis Collegiate Institute (JCI) is one of the oldest schools in Canada and was named after William Jarvis and his family - known slave owners. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/jarvis-street-slavery-1.3564667
As a student in the at JCI I wore the name proudly on my chest, not knowing it's dark history. We need to change the name of this institution. As one of the most diverse high schools in the world in the heart of the most diverse city in the world, it is crucial that the next generation of students not attend an institution named after someone who would have had them in chains.
I propose JCI be renamed Shadd Collegiate Institute - after Mary Ann Shadd, who was an educator in Ontario, the first female publisher in Canada (The Provincial Freeman) and FOUGHT AGAINST slavery as a recruiting officer during the Civil War. https://www.mysteriesofcanada.com/ontario/famous-black-canadians-6-10-mary-ann-shadd/
This petition is aimed at making the Toronto District School Board take action to support black students, and in doing so support ALL their students. 232,000 signatures for the 232,000 students in the board.
