President Trump opened the Tongass Forest to logging (in case you don't know what that is, I didn't know until I searched it, Wikipedia states that "Logging is the process of cutting, processing, and moving trees to a location for transport. It may include  skidding, on-site processing, and loading of trees or logs onto trucks[1] or skeleton cars") only days before the election. I want to end that.

"Why is this important?" you might ask. Well, the Tongass Forest is the biggest temperate rainforest in the WORLD. An article from Ecosia (a green search engine) states, "Alaska’s Tongass is the world’s largest temperate rainforest, and a key habitat for wildlife." Lots of animals and plants depend on this rainforest ecosystem.

A The Guardian article states, "Experts call the Tongass the “lungs of the country” and one of nation’s last remaining bulwarks against climate change. Located on the southern coast of Alaska, it is made up of centuries-old western cedar, hemlock and Sitka spruce trees, and is home to immense biodiversity, including the largest-known concentration of bald eagles." Think of all the consequences if we do not stop this soon. Most bald eagles will die. Lots of co2 will stop being removed each year. Trees will be cut down. The consequences are huge.

Please sign this petition (only if you are American). I will give this to Congress.

Sincerely,

An American citizen who is concerned for the fate of the planet
