TikTok: Urgently ban videos with NeeDoh toys in microwaves — our kids are badly injured!
The Issue
As a parent, I’m horrified that our children are getting seriously hurt—some hospitalized, some scarred for life—because of a TikTok trend encouraging them to microwave NeeDoh squishy toys.
Parker Tenney, age 8, suffered third-degree burns on his stomach after trying the trend he saw online. He spent 18 days in a burn unit and required multiple skin grafts.
Scarlett Selby, age 7, ended up in a medically induced coma after her NeeDoh cube exploded out of the microwave, burning her face and chest. She now lives with permanent scars.
Both kids were copying what they saw on social media. This is not an accident—it’s the result of viral content that should never have been online.
Even Schylling, the company that makes NeeDoh, has urged platforms like TikTok to remove content showing or encouraging unsafe use of their toys, and warned: “Do NOT microwave, heat, or freeze NeeDoh toys. It may cause injury.”
But those videos are still up.
We’re calling on TikTok to immediately remove all videos showing NeeDoh toys being microwaved! Proactively detect and remove similar dangerous trends involving children’s toys.
Work with child safety experts and manufacturers to flag dangerous content before it spreads
TikTok claims to care about safety. It’s time to prove it.
Please sign this petition if you agree: no child should be hospitalized because of a trend TikTok failed to take down.
