Thomas Mitchell, concerned parents. Petition to obtain a meeting with the school.
The issue
This petition calls on the leadership of Thomas Mitchell Primary School to urgently address a pattern of poor planning, inadequate communication, and ongoing disruption to students’ education.
Many students currently in Grade 6 have experienced significant instability throughout their primary school years. Over six years, some have had teachers leave halfway through the school year on three separate occasions. This year alone, Grade 6X has already lost two teachers during one of the most important years of a child’s education, as they prepare for secondary school.
These are not isolated incidents. Parents have experienced repeated issues including:
Frequent teacher turnover and disruption to learning.
Poor planning and organisation of school activities.
Late communication about important events.
Insufficient notice for parents to volunteer and support school programs.
Emails raising concerns that are rarely acknowledged or answered.
Mid-year reports issued without the detailed teacher comments that parents have consistently received in previous years, leaving many families without meaningful feedback on their children’s academic progress.
Parents have raised these concerns on numerous occasions, yet little appears to have changed. We believe our children deserve better.
We call on the school’s leadership to:
Improve teacher retention and minimise disruption to classrooms.
Provide timely, transparent and consistent communication with parents.
Improve planning and provide adequate notice for school events.
Respond appropriately to concerns raised by parents.
Restore comprehensive written teacher comments in student reports.
Every child deserves a stable learning environment, effective school leadership, and parents who are treated as genuine partners in their child’s education. We urge Thomas Mitchell Primary School to take immediate action to address these ongoing issues.
