Gordonstoun is portrayed in the media as regal school for the upper-class but in reality many of the attending students are on scholarships, bursaries or have financial issues. and therefore can not afford it. Last minute, during these heavy times of covid-19, they have decided to make a new uniform for the new school year. This new uniform, released over a week ago, includes a whole new arrangement of different items such as a main uniform and sports uniform. Altogether, at an estimate, this would most likely cost almost £300. This money could be used for better things for these struggling families.

Before the new school year they tested out these uniforms on various students and they all disagreed with even the suggestion of this proposition. personally asking students about this there was not a single person that has felt positively about this decision. one of the many items they are removing is the fleece, a highly favoured piece of the original uniform. the fleece is something that everyone feels comfortable in and it gives people confidence. Effectively you would be removing the joyful spirit of the students and there overall experience at school would change.

I understand that this would come to a huge loss of money for the school as well so in order to keep the school out of debt we should phase the introduction of the uniform. this would mean that instead of everyone buying this new uniform the new students would buy it and the old students would keep the old one. if the old students need new uniform they will then invest in the new uniform and as time went on all the students would have the new uniform.

if Gordonstoun had better timing with the release of the uniform it would be a reasonable decision but with many families struggling during corona the reasoning is not clear. Normally the school shows unity as a democracy but this was a decision made by the teachers with little to no input from the students.
