Call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to consider supporting Ukraine by prohibiting Russian Stations from entering Radio Society Great Britain (RSGB) Contest

For those who are disappointed by the August 7th 2026 RSGB decision gifting Russia the prize of a return to UK Amateur Radio sport, abandoning Ukraine at this critical moment, this message is for you.

For those dismayed by the manner in which the RSGB announced the decision, in an opaque Press Release purporting widespread consultation that disguised its true intent, this message is also for you.

In times of war, neutrality favours the aggressor.

Amateur Radio has a role to play in Ukraine’s fight against invasion. The simplest station can, and does, make contact with Russians on a daily basis.

We have Russian radio friends ourselves and wish them no ill-will personally, but we believe that their collective isolation from radio sport will contribute to pressure inside Russia for change.

Politics and sport have never been separate, despite the howls of protests from those who wish it were so. The bar has always been high for nations to be excluded, but we believe Russia’s daily murderous attacks on Ukraine and their hybrid war against Europe/UK show their continued exclusion is more than justified.

Russia rightly, remains banned from the majority of sport globally.

Sport matters, it reaches deep into society and isolation from it sends an important message of protest. 

We are calling on the RSGB to convene an EGM under Article 4 of the Statutes to consider whether Russian stations should be prohibited from entering RSGB contests.

This is not an ordinary petition which can simply be acknowledged and ignored. Article 4(a) of the RSGB Statutes provides that 300 paid-up Members can requisition an EGM, and that the Board shall convene such a meeting within eight weeks of receiving the requisition.

Signing the petition is sending this message to the RSGB Board:

"I am a member of the RSGB and I wish to request the Board to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) under Article 4 to discuss prohibiting Russian stations from entering RSGB Contests, and further, to consider the resolution “To require the Board to prohibit all Russian Stations from entering all RSGB Contests"
