Induct Tracy Chapman into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Induct Tracy Chapman into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Issue

This week marks the 28th Anniversary since the release of Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut LP. The album sold over 20 million copies and became an album of a generation, socially conscious, politically charged lyrics coupled with brilliant musicianship won over fans in their millions. As Chapman’s body of work has grown so has her artistry, each release exploring new sounds, styles and themes.

Fans over the years have eagerly attended sold out venues across the globe to see Chapman perform. Known for paying her entourage well, rehearsing tirelessly in order to keep set lists eclectic and putting on a show that will stay with you for life; Chapman commands the stage with instrument and voice rather than props or gimmicks.

In addition to the Arresting, insightful, inspiring and often therapeutic musical output, Chapman has remained an unquestionable social activist, supporting organisations such as Amnesty International, Make Poverty History, amfAR and AIDS/LifeCycle.

Her musical legacy can be felt throughout the musical landscape from 1988 until today with artists from Bonnie Raitt to Justin Beiber declaring their enduring respect and admiration for her. At the end of last year Chapman released her first global "Greatest Hits" collection and “Fast Car” has recently enjoyed a huge resurgence due to a couple of massively popular tropical house remixes. For three years Tracy Chapman has been eligible for enrolment into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and we believe now is the time.

The hall itself is situated in Cleveland, Ohio, the very town in which Tracy Chapman was born and raised. In the museum that houses the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sits a photo of Chapman taken by Herb Ritts in an exhibition.

Please sign our petition, asking the Foundation to induct Tracy Chapman into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and acknowledge her tireless contribution to music.
