The court in Ghana should have verified the marriage certificate with the German authority that issued it to confirm its authenticity. If marriage certificates from Ghana are accepted as valid proof of marriage in Germany and other countries, then certificates issued in Germany should likewise be recognised by our judicial system.
It is disappointing that hearsay, unidentified or questionable witnesses, and conflicts of interest were accepted in court over an official, legally issued German marriage certificate. Marriage is already challenging enough for many African women, and it is unfair that Auntie Serwaah , the only true and legally recognised wife is facing this struggle.
We are calling for justice for Akosua Serwaa Fosu. Women deserve fairness, respect, and protection under the law.
The woman needs help because it's not easy to raise kids alone whilst a man abandon you and your children alone. Knowing you have an ordinance marriage and just after his demise, you are told your certificate doesn't matter. We need justice for Akosua Serwaa.
