The Residences at Scioto Crossing, please stop using SLAPP to cover up your fake reviews

The Issue

Note: A SLAPP lawsuit is a strategic lawsuit against public participation. It is a lawsuit designed to use the court process to make someone silent about something through expensive legal proceedings. In my case, they are trying to use the court to silence me from stating that they use fake reviews across their businesses. At one point I saw that 100% of the 5 star google reviews for another one of their companies, Today Homes of Dublin Ohio were written by employees of the founder. Not a single one of the 5 star reviews was from an actual customer with no employment ties to the company. Also, the video above is not my video, it is from someone who lived at another one of their apartments, The Arbors of Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Ohio.

I was going to live at Sawmill Common apartments in Dublin, OH, but ultimately signed a lease at The Residences at Scioto Crossing in Dublin, Ohio due to the extremely high reviews. The Residences at Scioto Crossing is owned / managed by T & R Properties. I didn’t know it at the time, but many of the high reviews for properties managed by T & R Properties were fake reviews left by staff members, including the companies Chief Operating Officer.

After living there for a few months, I was confused as my experience was horrible. 4+ months to get my water heater fixed.  20+ year old broken washing machine that they refused to replace. Minimal snow removal.

I really started questioning if I was making a big deal out of things, because based on the reviews, nearly everyone seemed to love this place. I did some research on the names of the reviewers and noticed they were nearly all staff of T & R properties. I wrote a review disclosing this and advising that The Residences at Scioto Crossing was defrauding people by using fake reviews.

Later on, I received a message from someone on Reddit asking me about it…I asked if they were affiliated with T & R properties and they said no. The person claimed to be a military servicemember at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The messages seemed a bit suspect so I dug into the users post history. This individual had posts from the past disparaging the founder of T & R properties, so I dug more until I found out this individual was actually one of T & R properties directors, rather than a military servicemember. I confronted them about it and began posting about what they had done.

I filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. A month later The Residences at Scioto Crossing sued me  and asked the judge to issue a preliminary injunction banning me from being able to speak out about anything related to the Residences at Scioto Crossing or T & R properties. They also destroyed the evidence of the fake reviews, now writing them with fake names instead of using the companies employees personal google accounts. T &R Properties literally responded to the Better Business Bureau with "We have proceeded with legal action." The Ohio Attorney General and Better Business Bureau told me they would not work on my complaint since the company had now sued me. When I mentioned that this incentivizes companies to sue tenants to get complaints hidden, I received no response.

At the hearing for the preliminary injunction, T & R properties employees’ lied to the Magistrate Judge. They had blocked me which deleted the history of the conversation in which they used the fake identity of a military servicemember. Fortunately, I had screenshotted a copy before they destroyed the evidence.

Despite evidence proving they are lying, T & R properties has not just admitted the truth so that my name can be cleared. They have continued to harass me by contacting my employer using fake names, sending false messages to my employer using these fake names.
