Protect the Right to Bear Arms / 2nd Amendment

Protect the Right to Bear Arms / 2nd Amendment
The Issue
We call on President Barack Obama and Congress to stand by the Constitution in protecting United States citizens' Second Amendment rights. We also urge President Barack Obama and Congress to pledge non-participation in any international law or treaty that may result in the usurpation of the U.S. citizens' Second Amendment rights, such as the recent U.N. Arms Trade Treaty.
What happened in Colorado was a tragic event. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of each person affected by that day. Politicians and individuals are now calling for new gun bans and strict regulations that could result in the removal of citizens' right to bear arms, instead of acknowledging the real issue is mental health. In fact, Mayor Bloomberg recently called for police to strike nationally, refusing to protect citizens until the public gives up their 2nd Amendment rights. This coercion is bizarre and disgusting, yet continues to reveal how some supposed people's "representatives" forget they took an oath to protect the Constitution while capitalizing on fear to push their own agenda, incrementally moving toward converting the freedom America once had to that of repressive 3rd world nation. Just recently a handful of Senators planned to sneak a "Magazine Ban" to the CyberSecurity Act.
Many studies strongly show that phasing out or banning gun ownership actually leads to INCREASED crime rates (and vise versa). Take Chicago for example, there was the largest drop in crime since 1982 after their gun ban was lifted. In fact, Fox News reported on September 30, 2011 that robberies with guns fell by 25%, while robberies without guns have fallen by eight percent, assaults with guns fell by 37%, while assaults without guns fell by 12%. One thing is very clear, when law-abiding citizens have guns, it deters criminals from using theirs. According to 20/20 and John Stossel, interviewed convicts said that they don't follow gun laws and when they're enacted, the only armed people are criminals not citizens- so this leaves the public defenseless to increased crime.
Not only is the gun ban issue misdirected, it is a direct violation of the rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
