Lift the ATF prohibition on restoring the 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms

The Issue

Because it is a basic American Civil Right.

Remove the prohibition Congress has on the ATF on restoring the rights to citizens as stated by the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968.

If a person who is convicted of certain types of crimes and has "paid their debt to society" they get their civil rights restored. Which includes voting and in most states their Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms.

The GCA gave the authority to the Attorney General to grant relief from this act to persons who are determined not likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety 18 U.S.C. 925(c). The Attorney General then delegated this authority to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Since 1992 the ATF's annual appropriation has prohibited the expending of any funds to investigate or act upon applications for relief from Federal firearms restriction submitted by individuals.

For persons to get their rights restored they have to complete the following.

1st Fully satisfy their sentence be it incarceration, probation, fines, classes and so forth.

2nd They fill out a application and submit it to the ATF and the ATF deems that person “not likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety”

Congress is prohibited them from doing that. Please sign the petition to get this restriction lifted.

Thank you for your support and please contact these officials and groups and anyone else you think could help get this issue resolved.
