Minister for the Environment Matt Kean, we beseech you to please take urgent action to restore all the Batemans Marine Park sanctuary zones including those at Montague Island to their full “no-take” status that were opened in December 2019 for recreational fishing. This will ensure the protection of marine biodiversity, ecosystem function and integrity as well as Montague Island’s Green Listing status with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Only 48 locations worldwide are on the esteemed Green List with Montagues presence now threatened as a direct result of the removal of sanctuary zones in the area.
