The Fate Of Fish & Fisheries Is In Your Hands
The Issue
We need your help to prevent Congress from an ill-advised attempt to change the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation law.
We've been involved with commercial fishing for red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico for over 35 years. We saw firsthand the decline of the red snapper fishery based on misguided fishery management policies. It jeopardized my ability to bring red snapper to America's dinner tables and negatively impacted coastal communities across the Gulf.
Help us tell Congress that the law is working and they should oppose any efforts to weaken it.
Fortunately, three years ago, a science-based rebuilding plan consistent with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation Act — along with a new management system to control effort — helped turn things around.
Working with groups like Ocean Conservancy, we helped turn the tide by ensuring common sense management policies were adopted to help red snapper recover. After a mere three years, I'm seeing more plentiful and bigger fish — in places they haven't been seen in generations.
Help us tell Congress that the conservation law is working and they should oppose any efforts to weaken it. By doing so, together we can ensure a future of sustainable domestic fisheries.
