TfL to take immediate action to prioritise pedestrian safety in Shooters Hill
Why this petition matters

The Shooters Hill community ask TfL to give urgent attention to ensure road safety for children and adults on Shooters Hill.
The area of concern surrounds Christ Church CE Primary School, Ark Greenwich Secondary School as well as popular walks in Oxleas Woods, pubs, cafes, Christ Church and Severndroog Castle.
Shooters Hill area by Christ Church School
Despite the pedestrian lights and crossing patrol there have been several collisions and near-misses involving vehicles and pedestrians. Cars drive at high speeds over the hill directly into an area where they put families and children at high risk.
Shooters Hill / Well Hall Road junction
Those of us who cross daily at this junction never feel safe. Vehicles have complete priority and there is no time given at all for pedestrians to cross the road. We often wait for long periods to cross safely with the children as cars turning right will jump red lights. The answer is not the crossings further down Well Hall Road or Academy Road (which are also needed) as this forces pedestrians to take an indirect route and it would fail to address the real issue – cars and vehicles have all the rights in this area and pedestrian safety is not prioritised. The fact this happens between two schools (where many older children cross on their own without an adult) is terrifying. Collisions are too frequent and result in traffic chaos across the Borough.
Changes we want to see
1. Traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and/or 20mph limit outside Christ Church School would have an impact as they have for other schools in Greenwich.
2. Pedestrian lights at the junction at Shooters Hill/Well Hall Road
3. Filter lights for cars turning right before there is a serious incident.
Royal Borough of Greenwich are aware of the issue but they are restricted by an annual budget settlement from TfL which is experiencing financial difficulties.
Please sign this petition to ask that this is a top priority for TfL and Royal Borough of Greenwich in their upcoming budgets.
