City of Cape Coral Council & Mayor voted on December 2nd to put a “place holder” for 2 clubs at the Tropicana Park under the GO Bond tax that you as a tax paying resident is paying for!  This will prohibit your use of TWO 17,034 sqft pieces of land each with 167ft WATERFRONT PROPERTY at this Public City Park. All of the public input meetings that the city held in September did not mention the months of planning, meetings, sketches, designs etc for SFCKC & Rowing club. Nor did they mention the TWO 15,000 sqft storage building or 62ft rowing shells or the discussions from the SPRING of 2019 in regards to “Big Red” the shell trailer that is a beast to maneuver. They also didn’t mention an option to Move the pavilion somewhere else on site and compress the bathroom and kayak launch walkway into a smaller footprint.   It was never mentioned that the south canoe and kayak club and the rowing club was establishing a permanent home for the organizations at the Tropicana park which is one of the seven neighborhood parks proposed under the General Obligation (GO) Bonds program.   It was also never mentioned that the park designer, AECOM, that the City hired stated “As a rule I don’t think Our beautiful parks need a buffer. This one is going to be an exception.”  They also didn’t tell you that SFCKC mentioned that “the public launch is still just a placeholder but public Rec boats would definitely prohibit our ability to get Team boats out of OUR space”.   In addition to that many of the items on the public information comment summary that you voted for or requested have been changed or reduced in size or completely removed. The City said “The shaded pavilion does not have to contain grills and benches this is only a concept. We can move those to another area in the park if they even remain an amenity at the park”. 

STOP this nonsense & sign this petition to stop the City Council from voting to lease public land to a private group for $10 a year Or a nominal fee for 10 years with two 5 year renewals!  THIS IS YOUR PUBLIC PARK, your paying the GO Bond tax already!
