Petsmart doesn't employ exotic animal veterinarians. Therefore the reptiles they sell havent had any kind of medical care prior to sale! These animals can be carrying parasites that can be lethal to the animal! My family's Chinese water dragon Draco died on January 26,2015 due to a parasite it was carrying and died before I could even take him to a vet. The employees that work in the exotic animal departments have little to no experience in these animals and that has got to change. Their are hundreds of stories of people buying reptiles from petsmart and the reptiles dying days,weeks or even months after purchase! The suppliers that petsmart uses (rainbow world exotics) has a bad reputation of throwing away animals they can't sell These animals are said to be thrown away live! So if an animal can't be sold its useless? Rainbow world exotics keep their animals in cramped cages that are never cleaned. This leads to illness in the Animals. It isn't fair to the animal. These kind of suppliers give the reptile trade and hobby a bad name. They exploit these amazing animals for profit. They should be shutdown. Petsmart should have to use suppliers that have very high standards for the animals. Petsmart only wants to exploit the reptile trade for profit! They need veterinarians in their stores that are trained in exotic animals that can properly diagnose and treat the reptiles prior to sell! Boycott them until this changes. They have vets for dogs and yet they don't even sell dogs in their stores! My family is very heartbroken over the loss of Draco. We had him for less than a month. This can be avoided and it can happen to your family! They need better trained employees,better suppliers and reptile veterinarians in the store. Petsmart keeps their bearded dragons several to a cage which causes fighting for dominance and leads to injury or death! The ball pythons they sale have terrible sheds due to improper humidity. My goal here isn't political,money or fame. It's for petsmart and any other retailer that sells reptiles and exotic animals to be properly trained and to have the proper medical staff on hand for these animals! When I called them about Dracos death all they said was the lizard was past the 14 day warranty and they couldn't answer my questions because they didn't know the answers. I didn't want a refund or a new pet. I want this to change or to stop altogether. If they want to make this right they can change the way they treat their reptiles and change suppliers! Hire a reptile vet! Stop the improper treatment of these amazing animals. Don't let this happen to your family!
