Tell Wyoming Court: Don’t Throw Out the Case of Torture and Murder of a Gray Wolf
The Issue
On January 28, a Wyoming judge will decide whether the felony animal‑cruelty case against Cody Roberts will proceed to trial—or be thrown out before a jury ever hears the evidence.
That decision matters deeply.
In February 2024, Cody Roberts was accused of chasing a female gray wolf with a snowmobile, taping her mouth shut, torturing her, parading her through a bar, and ultimately killing her. The incident sparked outrage across Wyoming, the United States, and the world.
After months of investigation, a Wyoming grand jury reviewed the evidence and returned a felony indictment for animal cruelty. That indictment represents the judgment of citizens who believed the allegations were serious enough to deserve a full trial.
Now, before the facts can be tested in court, the defense is seeking to have the case dismissed entirely.
We are not asking the court to decide guilt or innocence. We are not asking for special treatment or political interference. We are asking for the most basic principle of justice to be upheld:
Let the case be heard.
Throwing out this case before trial would:
Undermine the role of the grand jury,
Deny transparency and accountability,
And send a message that extreme cruelty toward wildlife can escape scrutiny.
Even within Wyoming’s deeply flawed predator laws, there are limits. This indictment shows that torture and public abuse cross a line that society will not accept.
Justice requires process. Accountability requires evidence. And the public deserves to see this case decided in a courtroom, not dismissed quietly before it begins.
Tell the Wyoming court: Don’t throw out the case. Let the felony animal‑cruelty trial move forward.
