Tell the Australian Govt to protect the High Seas
The issue
Our oceans are in peril but there's hope. During the United Nations Ocean Conference happening in France right now, the world has an opportunity to ratify the High Seas Treaty, safeguard the oceans and move a step further to 30x30. Ensuring 30% of the oceans are fully protected by 2030
The Crisis: Two-thirds of our oceans—the High Seas beyond any nation's borders—remain completely unprotected. These waters are being devastated by unchecked overfishing, pollution, and industrial exploitation, with no international safeguards in place.
The Opportunity: The High Seas Treaty must be ratified by 60 of the 196 member nations to trigger it into becoming international law within 120 days. This treaty will establish marine protected areas, sustainable fishing practices, and international cooperation to protect these vital waters. Australia has signed the treaty but has NOT ratified it.
Why Australia Must Act
As an island nation, Australia should show leadership. Our economy, communities, and biodiversity depend on healthy seas. The oceans provide every second breath we take, provide food for 3 billion people, and support millions of jobs globally.
Our Demand
We call on the Australian Government to immediately ratify the High Seas Treaty. Australia must be a leader, not a follower, in safeguarding the oceans that sustain all life on Earth.
If the ocean dies, we die.
