Tell Texas: Don’t Cut Funding for Women’s Shelters!

Tell Texas: Don’t Cut Funding for Women’s Shelters!
The Issue
Texas is facing an estimated $15 million shortfall in the 2012-13 budget, and funding for women’s shelters is in serious danger of being cut by the State Legislature.
If women’s shelter funding is cut, thousands of abused women and their children will have nowhere to flee from abusive relationships, resulting in thousands more deaths and injuries - ultimately costing the State even more money for police, criminal justice and health care expenses.
Family violence is the leading cause of injury to women and children in America, according to the U.S. Department of Health's Center for Disease Control & Prevention.
Women’s shelters are absolutely essential for the protection and well-being of abused women and their children trying to escape from abusive relationships.
Please sign our petition now. Let’s all tell Gov. Rick Perry and Texas legislators: Don’t cut funding for women’s shelters!
