Joan J. Huffman is an American politician and lawyer who has been serving as a Republican member of the Texas Senate since 2008. Born in 1956, Huffman represents District 17, which encompasses parts of Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Harris counties. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law. Huffman's career includes significant legal and judicial roles, having worked as a prosecutor and later as a judge at the 183rd Criminal District Court in Harris County. Additionally, he served as a secretary in the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
