The Issue

Protect Access to Medically Necessary Autism Services
We are calling on Simply Healthcare to reconsider the proposed reduction of ABA reimbursement rates to 80% of current rates.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a medically necessary service for many children and individuals with autism. These services support communication, behavior regulation, social development, daily living skills, and overall independence.

Reducing reimbursement rates would create devastating consequences for both providers and the families who rely on these essential services.

This Cut Threatens ABA Providers Financially
ABA providers already operate within extremely tight financial margins while managing increasing operational costs and workforce shortages.

Providers are responsible for covering:

  • Salaries for Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs)
  • Clinical oversight by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs)
  • Ongoing staff training and supervision
  • Insurance compliance and administrative requirements
  • Facility expenses and technology
  • Recruitment and retention efforts amid a national staffing shortage

A reduction to 80% reimbursement would place immense financial strain on providers and could force many organizations to shut down entirely. Smaller providers and community-based organizations would be especially vulnerable.

Patients and Families Will Suffer the Most
The individuals most impacted by these cuts will be the children and families who depend on consistent ABA therapy.

ABA services are not optional. Interruptions in care can cause:

  • Regression in communication and behavioral progress
  • Increased challenging behaviors
  • Loss of critical developmental gains
  • Emotional and financial stress for families
  • Disruptions in school and community participation

Families are already struggling with long waitlists and limited provider availability. If reimbursement rates are cut, many providers may no longer be able to accept new patients or maintain current levels of care.

This will lead to:

  • Longer waitlists for autism services
  • Reduced access to medically necessary treatment
  • Fewer available providers in communities
  • Increased barriers for underserved families
  • Children who need early intervention and ongoing therapy may be left without support during critical developmental periods.

ABA Therapy Is a Medical Necessity
ABA therapy changes lives. It helps children build communication skills, improve independence, increase safety, and participate more successfully in daily life.

Policies that reduce access to care harm not only providers, but the vulnerable individuals and families who depend on these services every day.

We urge Simply Healthcare to prioritize patient access, provider sustainability, and continuity of care instead of implementing reimbursement cuts that could destabilize autism services across our communities.

We Call on Simply Healthcare To:

  • Reverse the proposed reduction to 80% ABA reimbursement rates
  • Protect access to medically necessary autism treatment
  • Prevent clinic closures and service disruptions
  • Work collaboratively with providers and families to create sustainable solutions
