Tell Rick he is Wrong on his Health Care Decision

On Thursday, June 28th, 2012 the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, the most significant health care legislation of our generation.

On July 9, 2012, Governor Rick Perry announced that he would refuse to implement the Affordable Care Act in Texas. In a statement driven by politics and ideology, Governor Perry said he will not expand the Medicaid program for millions of hardworking Texans, nor will he allow Texas to establish an Affordable Insurance Exchange, a tool that will make it easier and more affordable for folks to find and purchase health coverage.

Our state has the highest percentage of uninsured folks in the nation, and the highest rate of uninsured children. 1 out of every 4 Texans does not have access to health care. It is estimated that we spend over $3 billion a year on uncompensated health care.

This law is already improving the lives of our fellow Texans. 357,000 young adults in Texas gained insurance coverage as a result of the health care law requiring health plans to allow parents to keep their children under the age of 26 on their family coverage. Since the Affordable Care Act was enacted, Texas seniors with Medicare have saved a total of $223,382,540 on their prescription drugs (http://www.healthcare.gov/law/resources/tx.html).

The Affordable Care Act would help insure up to 4.4 million more Texans at zero cost to the state through 2017. More than $112 billion could be available to Texas over the next 10 years alone. After 2020, the state would pay $1 for every $9 we receive from the federal government, a small price to pay to make sure our federal tax dollars come back to Texas and that our state is no longer home to the highest rate of uninsured folks in the nation.

If you want Governor Rick Perry to stop blocking Texans’ access to affordable health care, sign this petition today and let your voice be heard!
