Tell MPs to Stop the Housing Crisis in Toronto

Tell MPs to Stop the Housing Crisis in Toronto
The Issue
Following the pandemic in 2021, Toronto's homeless population increased. Eviction resulted from people losing their employment during this time. increasing the burden on emergency shelters, which at this time were already operating at full capacity due to social distancing practices. It is imperative that we provide better and more shelters for the homeless in 2024 to make up for our previous failings.
Canada has one of the greatest immigration rates per population of any nation in the world, with over 500,000 new immigrants arriving there each year, according to Statista. The increasing number of immigrants in Canada is increasing demand for housing, which is already difficult to manage given variables like inflation.
The cost of housing has increased since 2001. Although there was a minor house price problem in 1989, the federal government's poor handling of the housing sector was the bigger problem. Since the provincial governments were given the task of guaranteeing stable housing in 1987 by the Brian Mulroney administration, there has been a significant problem in this area.
Sign this petition to ask our MP's to put in place stricter rules regarding housing in Ontario and help the homeless community.
