Tell beverage companies: Stop hiding microplastic risks in glass bottles

The Issue

For years, we’ve been told that glass bottles are the healthier, more natural option. We paid more, we trusted the branding—and now new research shows we may have been misled.

A groundbreaking study just revealed that drinks sold in glass bottles can contain even more microplastics than those sold in plastic bottles. That includes soda, juice, sparkling water, and even bottled water. The contamination likely comes from caps, liners, or the bottling equipment itself. Either way, it’s happening—and we’re drinking it.

Right now, not one major beverage company discloses this risk on their labels. There are no warnings. No updates. Just the same old “pure” and “eco-friendly” messaging that makes consumers believe they’re making a safer choice.

That’s unacceptable.

We’re calling on the world’s leading beverage companies—Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestlé, San Pellegrino, LaCroix, and others—to update their product labels immediately to reflect what the latest science shows: that glass doesn’t always mean clean. Consumers deserve honest, up-to-date information about what they’re putting in their bodies.

If a bottle might contain invisible plastic, it shouldn’t be marketed as pure. It’s time for transparency.
