The Issue

AI-generated images of wildlife pose a threat to animals because it can influence people to believe what they see about these animals online. This is why, requiring tech giants to clearly label AI-generated photos and videos of wildlife is essential. In one case, it could cause fear and/or hostility to occur towards innocent species. First of all, these images are impacting people to think that many of these animals can do unthinkable things, which is simply not true. But along with this, the opposite could happen as well. A dangerous, poisonous, and/or deadly species could be presented as an animal that is harmless and gentle, and something that can be approached. This misinformation can put people in dangerous situations where they may be harmed or worse. This is because of how much people use social media and AI, and how much we rely on it for all types of information. Another way these images and videos could affect wildlife is because people could refuse to donate to any charity associated with animals, all because of an AI- photo (or recording) that provided them with misinformation. This is ultimately why the decision to label AI-generated images or videos should be put into effect by tech giants.
