Tear down the abandoned property at 3631 Randolph Rd
The Issue
The known history of 3631 Randolph Rd began with an alleged arson fire in September 2024. The Cleveland Heights Fire Department investigated the incident and publicly offered a $5,000 reward for information related to the case.
Following the fire, the property was left standing in a severely deteriorated condition — unsecured, visibly neglected, and increasingly viewed by residents as both an eyesore and a threat to public safety. Repeated complaints from nearby residents resulted in temporary measures, such as boarding windows and doors, but no meaningful long-term resolution. The property has remained in substantially the same condition from 2024 through the present day.
Nearly 18 months later, the City of Cleveland Heights finally initiated nuisance abatement proceedings and began taking formal action against the property owner. However, delays tied to ownership transfers and legal procedures stalled progress. More recently, the owner was able to pause enforcement again through the submission of repair plans, and the City granted an additional 90-day extension beginning in March 2026. Throughout this entire process, residents have received little communication while the condition of the property has continued to worsen.
Residents believe this process has become unnecessarily prolonged, overcomplicated, and ineffective. The surrounding neighborhood has been forced to live with the consequences of inaction for far too long, and community members are demanding a clear resolution and immediate action.
