Support Anti-Racist Curriculum
The Issue
Critical Race Theory (CRT) is under scrutiny by legislators and others who subscribe to false narrative of color blindness and that has led to the systemic oppression of people of color. When our students learn curriculum through the context of CRT they gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of their peers of color, make personal connections, as well as understand how to dismantle unfair systems that continue to plague our country for those of color. Suppressing CRT is a form of systemic racism as it allows for misinformation that racism is not a problem that affects the daily lives of the marginalized.
CRT is an academic practice that analyzes the social construction of race and its implications on historical outcomes as well as modern day systems. CRT introduces accurate accounts of history and shares the perspective of brown and Black citizens who have often been misrepresented and underrepresented.
State legislators like Brian Seitz in District 156 of Missouri are proposing bills and promoting initiatives that would silence teachers from providing an accurate account of U.S. history. The obvious conflict of censoring educators from providing facts are problematic and a precedent that we cannot afford to set.
This petition was created to give people an opportunity to contact their legislators and let them know that they stand against censoring teachers from teaching facts in the classroom. Start with contacting representative Seitz and let him know you disapprove of HB 952.
