Make Nelson/Tasman hiking car parks safe with CCTV and safety measures
The issue
The problem
The Nelson /Tasman Flora carpark, or the Mount Robert car park have been vandalised, car broken into and even sabotaged.
Last weekend alone 4 cars have been broken into at the Mt Arthur's Flora carpak in the Kahuranghi national park.
Testimonies and facts
The latest one from an eminent member of the Nelson Tramping club, reported his own car + 3 others broken into, windows smashed and even engine sabotaged, last weekend 15th of November 2020.

The goal
This petition is aimed at getting the support of the DOC (Department of Conservation), and the Tasman council, in order to support, allowing the installation of, and the funding of the acquisition of CCTV cameras to secure the place and get the thieves caught by recording number plates of every coming and going car.
The goal would be to buy 1 - 3 wildlife autonomous cameras for each car park i.e Flora and Mount Robert to start with, that feature motion detection and night vision, along with a long battery life of several months, or similar autonomous and outdoor fit camera.
- 1 camera at the entrance of the carpark in order to record number plates- 2 cameras at 2 different corners in order to record activity and the actual theft actions.
Cameras similar to this, night vision, triggered by motion detection, battery life close to 12months, hard to see for the thief in a hurry.
Use of funds
Buy wildlife autonomous cameras, that feature motion detection and night vision, along with a long battery life of several months, or similar autonomous and outdoor fit camera.
