Take down Hong Kong government propaganda from our streets

Take down Hong Kong government propaganda from our streets

The issue

Have you seen this billboard?

It has just popped up all over Australian cities - Leichhardt, Rozelle and Silverwater in Sydney and Carlton in Melbourne to name a few locations - and bears the stamp of Chinese Communist Party propaganda, broadcast blatantly on our streets. What it seeks to do is to normalise and glorify China's so called 'New Era' of repression in Hong Kong, following the brutal crackdown of democracy activists and civil society.

For Hong Kongers, especially those seeking refuge in Australia, it is a cruel reminder of the rights and freedoms that they have lost in their home city. It is also offensive to all democracy loving Australians.

Similar signage in Brussels was taken down 24 hours after citizens registered their outrage and we can do the same - these billboards must come down!

Please sign our petition to say no to insidious CCP propaganda right here in Australia.

Some background info:

The HKETO (Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office) in Australia is the sponsor of a number of false representations around main cities in Australia this year. They are putting up billboards, social media ads, and "free" events to promote Hong Kong's 25th anniversary of returning to the motherland. They call it a "new era" of "stability" "prosperity" and "opportunity". But what they are not telling you, is why this is a deceptive piece of propaganda and needs to be exposed and opposed by the Australian people.

After stamping out all dissent in Hong Kong by brutal, inhumane, and essentially police-state methods, since the city-wide protests in 2019-2020, the international front office for the Chinese CCP manipulated regime is now targeting international businesses and investors, while whitewashing their crimes against Hongkongers. So called "stability" has been achieved by a shocking loss of political and social freedoms and wiping out opposition voices. Prominent activists are in jail or long-term detention without bail. Hundreds of thousands of Hongkongers have left the city in this short period of time to seek freedom and free from fear in the West.

Do Australians really wish to take up the "opportunity" to seek "prosperity" in Hong Kong, while turning a blind eye to the continual pain and suffering by so many in the city, who cannot leave? Or those overseas, who cannot return? Is it really worth sacrificing our Australian values, to financially benefit the perpetrators of their unpunished crimes?

Please sign our petition!

I urge all Australians to support this petition to the powers of this country, whether it is Ad Standards, our local councils, or Federal politicians, who should stop this transgression by the HKETO on our own soil. At the very least, we should not be deceived by foreign powers with a secret agenda, trying a con job on us.
