Suspend shuttle buses from RAF Wethersfield
The Issue
Local towns such as Chelmsford, Braintree, and Colchester are grappling with the overwhelming pressures on their public services, transport hubs, and town centres. This strain is being intensified by the continuous influx of adult male migrants transported daily from RAF Wethersfield into our communities, without a single day of reprieve. High criminal issues have been confirmed by Freedom of information requests and sexual assaults.
The shuttle buses that operate 365 days a year are not the result of local deliberations or decisions. Instead, they run at the behest of the Home Office, without meaningful consultation or dialogue with the residents, local councils, or police. We are bewildered and aggrieved by this unilateral decision-making process that completely bypasses our local communities, especially in the face of widespread public concern.
There are numerous reports of antisocial behaviour and criminal activities directly linked to individuals residing at the RAF Wethersfield site. This has cultivated an environment where many women and families in our community no longer feel safe going about their daily lives, undermining the fabric of our towns.
Adding to our frustration is the realisation that we, as residents, were never informed or consulted about these decisions. We lack any form of democratic mechanism or recourse to influence or halt what is occurring in our neighbourhoods. The imposition of these shuttle buses has deprived us of our agency and undermines the very idea of community involvement and governance.
We call for the immediate suspension of these shuttle bus operations. Our towns cannot endure this external pressure on their already-stretched public resources. We demand that the Home Office engage in genuine consultation with us, taking into account the needs and safety of the community before continuing any further movements.
Support us in urging the Home Office to reconsider its current operations and prioritize the well-being and safety of our communities. Please lend your voice and sign this petition to ensure our concerns are not only heard but acted upon.
