Utah lawmakers have introduced two new bills to limit screen time in public classrooms and return to more hands-on, traditional teaching. These bills—the SAFE Act and the Balance Act—would set age-based limits on screens in schools and require higher safety standards for educational software.

This is a smart step for Utah’s children.

Research shows that too much screen time in school can hurt learning, especially in the early grades. Many parents and educators agree that young kids need books, paper, and real interactions to build focus, literacy, and critical thinking—not more devices.
