Support the SEYAA Easter Week spring carnival
The Issue
For the past 35 years, the Easter Week spring carnival has been a beacon of community spirit and joy at 7th & Packer in Philadelphia, benefiting the Sportsmanship, Education, and Youth Athletic Association (SEYAA). Each spring, this beloved event brings together over 3,000 children of all races in a celebration of baseball, soccer, basketball, softball, and flag football. Sadly, a small group of individuals, who have continuously opposed the carnival, are threatening to shut it down.
As one of the original founders of SEYAA since 1993 and dedicated volunteers, we have worked tirelessly alongside city officials, the police, the port authority, Live Casino, and other stakeholders to ensure the event's safety and success. The carnival is not in a residential area but adjacent to Live Casino, and all necessary precautions have always been taken, including hiring security personnel to maintain a safe environment.
Four years ago, an unfortunate incident outside the carnival gates was resolved promptly through the effective collaboration of all involved agencies. This set a precedent for our unwavering commitment to safety. More recently, the only issue we encountered was related to capacity, not safety, despite misleading narratives that may have arisen.
This carnival is more than just an event; it's a celebration of community, diversity, and youth engagement in Philadelphia. Area children look forward to this joyful gathering every year, participating in activities that help build character and promote healthy lifestyles.
We are not set in the stadium district, which means we lack certain benefits, yet our devotion to enhancing the lives and experiences of our community’s youth remains steadfast.
Please join us in preserving this vital tradition by signing this petition. Your support is crucial to keeping the spirit of togetherness and joy alive at the SEYAA Easter Week spring carnival. Let's stand united for the continued happiness and development of the children in our neighborhood.
