Support small artists on Spotify for greater visibility
The issue
I have been releasing music for three years, pouring my heart and soul into every beat, chord, and lyric. But like many small, independent musicians, I struggle to reach beyond my current 100 monthly listeners on Spotify, despite my relentless efforts in promotion and creation. The current system seems to favor established artists, making it a steep uphill climb for new and unique voices to be heard.
Spotify, as one of the leading music streaming platforms, holds the power to amplify diverse and emerging talents. However, the existing algorithm tends to prioritize artists with substantial followings and streams, making it difficult for new musicians to gain exposure. The Discover Weekly and Release Radar playlists, which are heavily relied upon for discovery, often do not showcase enough emerging artists.
To support the next wave of musicians, Spotify should adopt initiatives that actively promote small artists. Introducing more playlists specifically designed for emerging talents, adjusting algorithms to ensure fair representation, and providing more accessible promotional tools could make a significant difference. Additionally, Spotify could organize events or partnerships that spotlight these musicians, giving them a chance to gain visibility and grow their audience.
Evidence shows that the music industry can be equitable and thriving when small artists have platforms to showcase their work. A more inclusive approach by Spotify could lead to a richer, more diverse musical landscape, benefiting artists and listeners alike.
Join me in urging Spotify to create more opportunities for small artists to be discovered and appreciated. Let’s make the music industry's future as vibrant and varied as the artists who are part of it. Sign this petition to support the dreamers and creators who aspire to move beyond the confines of their limited monthly listeners and share their art with the world.
