There are not sufficient loan repayment programs in Texas. Low salaries in the social work field create financial burdens and hinder social workers from paying back loans and supporting a family.

Research shows that the average cost of tuition for 15 hours a semester at a public institution is over $6000. This cost does not  include room, board and books. A master's degree in social work can easily accumulate a tuition total over $39, 000. A majority of social workers' salaries are under $40,000.

 Educational debt in the field of social work has also deterred many students from a career in social services. Some social workers have educational debt that is twice the amount of their annual salary.

Advocate for Social Work  loan repayment programs by writing to the Governor today. Show support statewide and nationswide. Our most vulnerable populations and commmunites are in need of our help. Don't let educational loan debt create burdens that will make social workers turn to other careers.
