Support mayor and city council candidates that are for pickleball courts in San Jose
The Issue
Pickleball, a fast-growing and inclusive sport enjoyed by players of all ages, deserves to have dedicated facilities in San Jose. This petition calls on our community to support only those council candidates who support these pickleball courts.
The game of pickleball has won over hearts due to its accessibility, affordability, and health benefits. Whether you are a young athlete looking for a fun way to stay active, a senior seeking low-impact exercise, or a family that enjoys spending time together outdoors, pickleball offers something for everyone.
Several nearby communities have embraced pickleball by building dedicated courts, recognizing the profound benefits they bring—including increased community interaction, enhanced physical fitness, and even economic benefits as tournaments and events attract visitors and boost local businesses. There’s no reason San Jose should be left behind.
Actions that have been attempted prior and should opposed is limiting court hours from what they are today and renting out courts which all are free open access today. All future actions to limit pickleball should be opposed.
1. Remove reservation systems that limit open play. Zero cost. Zero downside.
2. Open up reservation-only courts that currently sit unused — Wallenberg (school side) is the clearest example. Zero cost. Zero downside.
3. Stripe pickleball lines on tennis facilities with more than three courts to enable mixed use, following the Doerr Park model. Wallenberg (street side) and Bramhall are strong candidates. Minimal cost.
Sign this petition to show your support for dedicated pickleball facilities in San Jose and align with candidates who are committed to this cause. Together, we can ensure that San Jose continues to be a thriving community that meets the recreational needs of its residents.
