The Issue

Dear Buckman School Leadership,

We are kindergarten families writing to strongly urge Buckman Elementary to allow our current kindergarten teachers (Ms. Ekelof and Ms. Nakamichi) to "loop" with their classes into 1st grade for the 2025–26 school year.

Looping provides consistency and helps students thrive academically and emotionally, especially during the early grades. Students who loop with their teachers have been shown to make meaningful academic gains—particularly in reading and math—and build stronger relationships that support their growth and development.

Research has found that looping has led to improvements in academic achievement and social-emotional skills. Read more on that here.

Our kindergarteners have built trust, routines, and strong relationships with their current teachers—an investment we could build upon if they are their teachers in 1st grade as well. We’ve spoken with the teachers, and they are fully supportive of looping with their classes. Now, we ask for your support in making it happen.

Please consider our request and the research supporting it. Our children’s success and stability in these early years depend on it.

Sincerely,
Buckman Kindergarten Families
