Support Dignified Senior Housing in Kirkwood (Atlanta, GA)

The Issue

Right now, as Atlanta debates how to care for its most vulnerable, Turner Monumental AME Church is stepping forward with a solution. For more than 125 years, Turner has been rooted in East Atlanta, and for almost 60 years we have stood on Howard Street as a place of worship, refuge, and service.

We are now advancing a supportive housing community designed for seniors who deserve to age with dignity, stability, and peace.

What this Development Will Provide:

  • 53 affordable homes for seniors 55+ at 30% of Area Median Income (AMI)
  • Wraparound services such as case management, health and mental health support, recovery resources, and life-skills training
  • Safety commitments: 24/7 on-site security, cameras, controlled access, and careful applicant screening
  • Stewardship: Turner will retain ownership of the land, ensuring accountability and long-term care

This is not just housing. It is an expression of Turner’s faith and mission: to care for “the least of these.”

We have held two, voluntary community meetings to share our plans and hear concerns. While some opposition has been vocal, there are many who stand in favor of this project and want to see it succeed. This petition is a way for those voices of support to be heard.

By signing, you affirm your support for:
✅ Seniors being able to live in dignity and stability
✅ Safe, well-managed housing that strengthens the community
✅ Turner Monumental AME Church continuing its legacy of monumental ministry in Kirkwood

This project is about more than bricks and mortar. It is about legacy, community, and hope. Together, we can ensure that Kirkwood remains a place where all neighbors — including our seniors — can live together in dignity and in peace.
