The Issue

My name is Renee and I am reaching out for your support and understanding. I am currently serving a 15-year federal sentence for a non-violent drug crime. In a desperate moment, I made a terrible decision, and I take full responsibility for my action. However, I strongly believe that my sentence was disproportionate to the mistake I made.

As a mother of four and a grandmother of three, the past five years in prison have been incredibly difficult, but also transformational. I have dedicated this time to self-improvement and redemption. I have completed the Resolve and RDAP programs, attained certification in culinary arts, and completed a 4000-hour business apprenticeship. Currently, I am enrolled in Victorville College to further my education and prove my commitment to being a productive member of society upon release.

Throughout these years, I have learned a lot about myself and have worked tirelessly to prepare for a future where I can give back to my community, support my family, and make positive contributions. My children and grandchildren mean everything to me, and I hope to reunite with them sooner to make up for the lost time and to be there as they grow.

I believe in second chances and ask for your compassionate consideration for clemency. Over-incarceration for non-violent offenses affects thousands of families across the country and my story is one of many. Granting clemency in my case would not only reunite a family but also serve as a testament to the merits of rehabilitation and second chances.

This is my cry for help, a plea not just for myself but for others like me who are seeking redemption and a chance to contribute positively to society. Please show your support for clemency and share this petition. Every signature brings me one step closer to rejoining my family. Thank you for your empathy and understanding as we work towards a fairer justice system.
