As a parent and a passionate advocate for the positive impact of sports on our youth, I am deeply invested in the future of our community's young athletes. The Steve Woodcock Sports Centre in Newton has long been a hub for local soccer enthusiasts, providing a space for over 650 players, including 550 children, to hone their skills and foster a love for the game. However, the current condition of the natural grass pitches is limiting the potential of our budding athletes. Federal funding has been granted for $3million to install a new synthetic pitch, requiring no additional funds from council or ratepayers.

Wet weather  and high usage have left the fields in a state that is less than ideal for safe and effective play. The wear and tear on the pitch affects not only the quality of training and matches but also poses a risk of injury to our children. It's time we take action to ensure they have the facilities they deserve.

Installing a synthetic pitch at the Steve Woodcock Sports Centre presents a sustainable and long-lasting solution. Synthetic surfaces are resilient, requiring less maintenance and offering a consistently high-quality playing environment regardless of weather conditions. This upgrade will benefit not only the current players but future generations, encouraging more children to join and stay active in sports.
