The Issue

Despite spanning 200 acres and being the second largest park in Glasgow, Linn Park in Cathcart has only two small, poorly maintained play areas. The Seil Drive park in particular is in serious disrepair and unsafe for children. With the Linn ward having the 4th highest population of children in Glasgow, it's clear families deserve better. With no adequately maintained public play park within a 20-minute walk of Cathcart, families are forced to travel further afield or to neighbouring local authorities for safe and engaging play spaces.

We are Parents for Play, a group of local residents who are campaigning to create an exciting new play space for our children. Our goal is to gain support for a new adventure playpark in Linn Park - one that is not only inclusive and accessible but also reflects the unique heritage of this beautiful area.

The proposed play park will protect the cultural heritage of Old Cathcart by bringing its historical buildings and stories back to life through an inclusive adventure play park. Cathcart Castle, Snuffmill Bridge, the old mill and Granny Robertson’s Inn are central to Glasgow’s history, but risk being forgotten. Through creative play structures modelled on these buildings, immersive role-play, story boards and murals, the project will make this heritage accessible, relevant and valued for future generations. It will inspire local pride while deepening public understanding of the area’s history. It will provide a much-needed safe, imaginative, and inclusive play facility for local children.

Linn Park deserves a play area befitting its size and community needs. With your backing, we can make this vision a reality. We can show Glasgow City Council that Linn Park needs a playpark where our children can play safely and happily.
