I was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, and a peaceful sky is something I have never witnessed. By the time I turned two, the rumblings of war had already begun, casting a shadow over my earliest memories. For years, my family stayed, hoping against hope for peace. But in 2022, desperation drove us to Russia in search of safety and a better life.
Yet, the peace we longed for continues to elude us. Instead of shelter, we found more uncertainty and instability. This isn't merely my story; it's the reality for countless children and families across the globe, trapped in the endless cycle of conflict.
We must break this cycle, and it starts with recognizing the urgency of creating lasting peace. We call on global leaders to prioritize diplomatic solutions over military interventions, to invest in prosperity and rebuilding rather than destruction, and to support international initiatives that uphold human rights and stability.
Children like me deserve a future where the only sounds overhead are of birds, not bombs. We dream of a life where words like 'displacement' and 'refugee' are replaced by 'home' and 'community'. We dream of a world where any child can play in the open, safely, with the freedom to dream of brighter days.
But dreams need action to turn into reality. Let's urge our leaders to commit to comprehensive peace-building strategies that address the root causes of conflict – such as inequality and resources scarcity. We must advocate for robust international policies that prioritize education and development, providing young generations with tools to build peaceful futures.
