HELP REMOVE iREADY IN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Issue

PLEASE SHARE (other students, teachers, parents)

I write this petition on behalf of my fellow Middle School students. Every week, we are required to complete 30 minutes of iReady. Doesn't sound too bad, right? We also have to complete 1 full lesson a week. These lessons are irrelevant to what we learn in school only hurt our grade if we don't do well. Not only that, but each lesson tends to take students 1 hour or more to complete. This on top of all of our other homework is a lot to handle.  iReady has a feature called a 'Diagnostic.' This diagnostic asks each student various questions and then gives them a score at the end. These scores tell students where they are on the iReady level spectrum. This three-digit number can cause so many problems, though. Students like to compare scores after they complete the diagnostic to see where they are in comparison to their friends. The problem lies in the difference of scores; If a student's score is just a few points behind their friend, they'll feel like they aren't as smart as them. I understand that the iReady program could be beneficial to younger students who are just learning to read and solve addition and subtraction problems, but for middle school students, it's just a waste of time.

I only ask that you take a few seconds out of your day to help illuminate iReady in our middle school.

Thank you for your time
