Stop The Dress Code From Targeting Females
The Issue
The dress code seems whatever until you see females getting dress coded. "Shirt is too short", "Your legs are visible" etc. The majority of the students to get dress coded is girls. Why? Because our "skin" is a distraction. We live in a country where we have freedom. We go to a public school, not a private school. There is no uniform. The only thing we are not doing, is listening to a code that was made to discriminate women. Many male teens wear ripped jeans but are not told anything. There are male teens that wear at times short shorts and they are not told anything. There are male teens that show their shoulders but are not told anything. On the other hand, female teens get told something for the tiniest things, even for showing their shoulders, ripped jeans, and short shorts. I remember I was told, "Mia, do you have a sweater?" I responded, "Yes? Why?" They told me that I needed to put my sweater on because I was showing skin (my stomach). It was not even much because it was not short due to the fact I was insecure. Other females experience way worse. No comparison there. It is a stereotype that males get distracted by females. If you think about it, teachers, directors, administrators, etc. are the ones affected by females "breaking" dress code because they showed some skin. How is it that we are not allowed to wear ripped jeans but during the class of physical education, we can show our legs with shorts. Why is It that female teachers can show their shoulders and legs but not female teens? If you find the skin of females a distraction, then you should not be around children/teens and find some help. It is not okay to find a female's skin distracting because all human beings have skin. I believe this subject can help all of us come together and protest again the discrimination of the dress code.
