As a tradition over 50 years, graduating girls at Seminole High School wear white gowns and boys wear green. This year they have changed the style to where everyone wears one color: green. We acknowledge times are sensitive, but students should have the right to choose the color of their gown as what they identify as. This decision was consulted without the input of students or parents, which is unacceptable since we are the ones being impacted from this. In the beginning of the school year the girls taking graduation pictures wore white gowns which gave us the expectation we were going to wear white like tradition but without warning Seminole made the change to switch the girls gown for our actual graduation to green. In this form, we are petitioning for students to have the right to choose what color they would like to wear: white or green.
