Due to Covid-19, athletes are allowed to play their sport, however they are not allowed to have an audience. While this may seem like the appropriate option regarding the health of our community, it is unfair to our hardworking athletes. We practice, train, and prioritize our sport regularly. However, no one is able to see the work and sacrifice that we put into our sport. Many other districts in the St.Louis area have safely lifted the audience ban with certain regulations such as mask mandates and vaccine requirements. If the Ferguson-Florissant & Hazelwood School District require masks and vaccinations to participate in sports and watch the sport in person, not only would it be safer for the athletes and attendees, but it would also give the students a chance at a high school experience and a chance for athletes to show off their skill. A lot of student athletes are entering their most important year of high school; senior year. It is important to make senior as memorable and as valuable as possible. Allowing an audience, even if it has to be spaced out and limited, would definitely make a difference in the athletes’ attitude towards the sport and their overall senior experience, or high school experience in general.
