Stop Widening Of Highway Of NH-66 Based On Fake Report Produced By B Category Consulting Agency To Govt Of India

The Issue

For the sake of saving crude oil & loss of economy, which effects the growth of country, Our Petroleum minister Veerappa Moily who belongs to Karnataka,  hailed from coastal region set an example to the people by travelling through train. For this he has set a very good example, and he has plan to stop, sale of petrol and diesel after 8 pm by which, people should travel through public transport like bus, train so that our country can save fuel and gain economy,  reducing import of crude oil. On the other hand, road & transport minister Oscar Fernandez who also from coastal Karnataka do not give his attention to this serious matter of saving the fuel.

As this is known to everybody that NH – 66 (previously known as NH – 17) is getting widened from Mangalore to Goa i.e. in costal Karnataka, which is beautiful ecological zone. This project is very much needed to everybody and it is a big project and Govt. is going to spend in crores. This is carried out by NHAI, still there are major points which are funny.

This NHAI project is ‘A’ category project, and according to the norms project report should be prepared by ‘A’ category consulting agencies. It is funny to see that project report is prepared by ‘B’ category consulting agency, which has not followed the rules & regulations concern about environment which is very important in this region.                                                                           The report which is prepared by them is fake, which is an eye wash for public. There is case filed on this B grade consulting agency by Kerala Govt. for fraud & fake report and investigation is going on. This being the situation, how Govt. believed this, more over approved the project, without any consultation in spite of huge agitation from public, media and politicians.

 ·         Here are some more details of effects of the project if carried out:

o   The Economic Considerations: If few towns are given by passes then the total length of the High way can be reduced more than 27 Km which is very big saving in oil consumption as well as wear and tear of vehicles in long terms. The compensation payment to the land losers will be reduced drastically and the further court proceeding by them for higher demands (many times it continues to decades).

o   Ecological-Cultural Impact: This widening in town areas will destroy many of landmarks and monuments that have seen history unfold. Example 1. Beautiful Tagore beach that made the Nobel prize winner exclaim “Kashmir of the Karnataka” will only become the history 2. The biggest playground of North Canara dist “The Mahatma Gandhi Ground” (Manaki Ground, Kumta), which witnessed many national events in politics. 3. The awesome Trasi beach that has river one side and the roaring sear on the other will be a sad memory for future. Apart from this property such as agricultural land, lot of houses, hospitals, schools, temples, mosque, church, shops, and many, which may leads to huge loss & might create problem of unemployment hunger, poverty & hence criminal &terrorism activity, which is great loss for one country.

o   The Social Trauma: The width of costal in Uttara Kannada is very narrow compared to South Canara or Udupi, where maximum land belongs to minor forest (under Govt. of India), secondly 1Km is CRZ zone i.e. sea shore, thirdly lot of land acquired by Konkan Railway the remaining land belongs to common people. People are living here with small piece of land and if this small piece is snatched for widening of road which is again unscientific.

 ·         One more funny fact is the persons in charge of surveying, marking proposed acquisitionare not qualified. We can find many irregularities in this matter of paper works, maps, survey maps, notices.

 ·         The above sufferings can be easy solvable if many towns are given by-passes. Besides having alternate solution (by-pass) for construction of road government is planning to widen of road. This widening of road has very bad effect on environment which should be taken into account.

The only person who can stop this is the road & transport minister  Oscar Fernandiz &    Central Government Of India.  We started this petition asking the Minister & Central Govt of India to pass an ordinance that will regularise the widening of road.

This is urgent. If thousands of people like you sign this petition, the Minister & Central Govt of India will know that the whole country is demanding then Govt.  stand by the citizens and pass the ordinance.

As a  citizen Of India , it is time for us to stand up for what is right.  WE request you to help us to convince the Govt . to understand the consequences and hence re-open the project for changes in by-pass options in many town of coastal.Sign our petition and forward it to your friends.
