Stop Uk Social Media Ban Now
The Issue
We were brought up alongside technology. As we got older, technology became more advanced. Some of the sites that will be in the UK under 16s social media ban are understandable and many of us would agree that they are rotting our brains. However, there are other sites which we just don't understand why they are banning it, especially if there is only the odd innapropriate advert or video. Can we all understand that the innapropriate content is reportable and will be reviewed by their team and removed if necessary?
Instead of taking the opportunity to build a worldwide community away from us teens, they should be adding 'learning how to report innapropraite content' to the curriculum. It would be easier to add and comes with no possible risks.
the reason that us teens will rebel is because society views us as items that should not be heard and should be watched. We aren't trusted in society. If we learned how to report bad content, we could all be a part of making the sites safter for people all over the globe, instead of just taking the content from us, we could all contribute to a better site to people everywhere.
Social media users build a worldwide community of people with unique ethnicities and values. Social media can help us to realise these people and become friends with them. Taking social media away could result in more racist behaviour since there are no worldwide communities and we'd all be forced to socialise with English speakers. That is my idea of a nightmare. And even if there is racism online, REPORT IT.
It is not fair that we are blamed for social media issues when we are never taught how to report it. If we were taught how to report it, we'd be able to build a suitable community for worldwide users. It is so selfish of the UK government to decide to take our worldwide communities from us and not teach us how to help make it better for people in other countries. Sometimes I wonder if the government knows that there are over 100 countries in the world.
We want to have our communities, get into global issue debates, and have a good time.
Social media does not make us unsociable. 200 years ago, everyone was reading newspapers and not talking to one another. Newspapers back then was the printed paper copy of all the trash we see on social media. Agree?
We would have global communities, knowledge of other cultures taught by those cultures, and we'd be able to share our creativity with the world. It's up to you to help us keep what makes us so unique and what build global communities.
